Remakes are tricky. You have to reinvent the wheel every time. With a film like Wrong Turn, it is twice as hard because the characters and set design are so unforgettable. So is the new Wrong Turn a hit or a miss? If it wasn’t a hit you’d already know. 
The new journey begins with Joker himself, Mathew Modine, in a mountain town on the outskirts of the West Virginian woods, searching for his daughter. She has been missing for 6 weeks after going hiking with her friends. 
After some poking around town we flashback 6 weeks to meet Modine’s daughter Jen (Charlotte Vega), her stubborn boyfriend Darius (Adain Bradley), more asshole than not Adam (Dylan Mctee) and girlfriend, the med educated Milla (Emma Dumont) and totally in love couple Gary (Vardaan Arora) and Luis (Adrian Flavela). They are traveling and set out to go hiking for the day. They are warned, stay on the trail so you know, they don’t. 
What begins as some mishaps and and close calls quickly turns deadly as a tree trunk comes flying down the mountain injuring mist of our group and killing one in a gruesome scene. This sets things in motion where the horror cones to the surface in surprising places…and people. 
Wring Turn 2021 has a whole new premise that is just as terrifying but larger in scope. The woods are just as deadly, the imagery just as unforgettable. Though not a perfect remake, this film makes smart choices by not trying to reinvent its villains but creating new ones. A choice which may have been the right one. 
The film is relentless and does not stop till the credits finally fade to black. There are surprises around every turn of the climax that keep you jumping and guessing. 
Wrong Turn 2021 will never replace the original but stands head and shoulders above the sequels which got worse and worse over time. I know you are apprehensive, but this Wrong Turn is truly the right choice.
