One thing missing from films these days is pure adrenaline and gore. A true sense of not giving a care about the overly P.C. world we live in today. Director Joe Lynch is someone who recognizes that and has made one of the best films of the year. The film is MAYHEM which stars Steven Yeun and Samara Weaving. If you need a jolt of adrenaline, this is the film!

Steven Yeun is Derek, A nice and idealistic guy who gets set up and fired from his job by upper management. It just so happens that this is the same day as the building is locked down due to a virus that drives people insane. So instead of leaving and being able to drown his sorrows in drink as a normal people would do, he can’t leave. Add to his problems, Melanie (Samara Weaving) a woman whose loan was denied is trapped with him and let’s face it… she’s mad.

Over the next hour, they and everyone else in the building fall under the effects of the virus and bloodshed ensues. The only way he stands a chance is by teaming up with Melanie and killing everyone in their way.

MAYHEM may be Joe Lynch’s best film. Mostly because it doesn’t care to be. It only has one agenda, it wants to entertain you! This film does just that. It doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, it simply gives you the best version of the scenario imaginable. If you saw The Belko Experiment earlier this year, this is a better film because though the carnage is on par, the wit is miles beyond Belko, making it a more enjoyable film.

Steven Yeun, in his first meaty part since Walking Dead, shows that he has star power belong that character. He has a real presence. Samara Weaving, whose been on the rise since appearing on Ash Vs. Evil Dead, proves that she is here to stay.

MAYHEM is a great film that needs to be watched with a lot of beer and a full room. It’s the kind of fun that movies used to be and should be again. If we support films like these, we will get more! SO SUPPORT!
