The fantastical 21st edition of The Fantasia International Film Festival runs from July 13 – August 2 in Montreal, Canada. The festival has announced the remainder of its 2017 film lineup, in addition to its juries and special events. Included here are the newly-announced attractions- only a slight portion of it’s lineup.

Among the Montreal festival’s many new announcements are North American Premieres of Cannes sensation Good Time and Agnieszka Holland’s Berlinale award-winner Spoor; new works from Takashi Miike and Sion Sono; a Special Screening of SXSW hit Atomic Blonde; Canadian bows for Patti Cake$ and Bushwick; the World Premiere of Robert Morin’s breathtaking Infiltration; and Lifetime Achievement Awards for Turkish acting legend Cüneyt Arkın and Luchador cinema superstar Mil Máscaras; Dick Maas’ killer lion movie Prey, and the splatter comedy sequel Another Wolfcop; the North American Premiere of Terminator 2: Judgement Day 3D; the World Premieres of the female-driven exploitation films Blood Heist and Blood Ride (both produced by James Franco); and the World Premiere of Synapse Films’ long-awaited 4K restoration of Dario Argento’s legendary Suspiria… Again, a small sampling!

We here at Sinful Celluloid are especially excited for:

Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde

Atomic Blonde, directed by David Leitch (John Wick, the upcoming Deadpool 2), will screen in the Action section. Its sensual, savage, and sexy aesthetic is brought about by the talents of  Charlize Theron, John Goodman, Til Schweiger, and Sofia Boutella. A sexy spy thriller with no holds barred, it is a must-watch. What else would you expect from a movie set in the Berlin underground? Atomic Blond was the official selection of SXSW 2017, and with good reason.

Dario Argento’s Suspiria

Fantasia will be showcasing the first public screening of Synapse Films’ long anticipated 4K restoration of Dario Argento’s Suspiria, just in time for its 40th anniversary. A Grand Guignol fairy tale, Suspiria is a complex and breathtaking culmination of color and fantasy in film, solidified in film history. The film has been lovingly restored under the watchful supervision of its original cinematographer Luciano Tovoli with Synapse Films.

Suspiria has been restored from the fully uncut, original 35mm Italian camera negative and will be presented with the legendary 4.0 discrete sound mix not heard since its 1977 theatrical release. All this, and 4K HD. Excited yet?

A Taxi Driver, director Jang Hoon

Fantasia will close its 2017 edition with the premiere A Taxi Driver hosted by director Jang Hoon.
The film is set in 1980s South Korea under dictator Chun Doo-hwun and follows the ensuing student protests and daily nightmares of Korean citizens, starring Song Kang-ho (The Secret Reunion) and Thomas Kretschmann (Captain America: The Winter Soldier).  Director Jang Hoon has established himself as a talented and versatile Korean filmmaker with award winning films such as Rough Cut and The Front LineA Taxi Driver will no doubt impress at Fantasia.

The incredible undertaking that is the Fantasia Film Festival advertises the inclusion of innovative, and individualistic films of the genre, and this recent announcement promises to deliver. You’ll have to see for yourself, but rest assured, the collaborative efforts that have made past years possible are guarantees of continued excellence.
