Review: 2 Lava 2 Lantula! Is A Gooey Good Time

I don’t watch a lot of SYFY movies but when I heard that we had a sequel to Mike Mendez’s LAVALANTULA I was curious. Then I found out that Nick Simon (The Pyramid, The Girl In The Photographs) was directing 2 Lava 2 Lantula! and it just seemed like a good idea. I assure you that my instincts were right.2Lava2Lantula_blog_trailer_01

2 Lava 2 Lantula! opens up on the set of Colton West’s (Steve Guttenberg) new movie. With him is Marty (Michael Winslow) so the film starts out with a laugh. While we see Colton chew scenery as the most self absorbed action hero ever, his daughter Raya (Michele Weaver) is at the beach with her BFF Daniella (Lauren York). Simple day, nothing crazy happening…until a new Lavalantula infestation hits! During the escape, Daniella is bitten but both her and Raya survive the attack.

Back on set, Colton learns about the attack and with Marty in tow. Heads off to save his daughter. The thing is, where did these new ones come from and how do they stop the infestation?

This film is a straight up comedy and its intentions show by delivering a funny and gag ridden film. There are so many references and in jokes that a drinking game is in order. Hell, there is a joke in the title. The nostalgia of the film draws from both horror and action movies of the past and creates more nostalgic fun than Stranger Things.

2 Lava 2 Lantula! airs on SYFY this Saturday. Grab an adult beverage and make it a date!
